Which ones?
The Caprice, Crown Vic, Taurus, Impala? My local police even have VW Bug and a Camaro.
I think the only make Interceptor versions for the Caprice, Crown Vic and the Camaros

they don't need to be too fast, because if speeds reach over a certain speed, cops give up in the interest of public saftey (depending on the offense of course).. so i'd guess 120 tops... they shouldn't be going faster than that....
this is all information from "world's scariest police videos"... so, its just 2nd hand information

new crown vic = approx 135 per speedo from my experience :)
Dude, we're struggling with our 04's. They're hitting a fucking GOVERNOR at 115! We don't know if the city fucked us and didn't even kiss us or if Ford is starting to govern the new CVs. Either way, it's completely hosed. You tap it at 115 and it starts cutting out on us. Other than the weak ass top end, the 04s have a lot more mid-range grunt than any others we've had. I was in a pursuit with a newer Mustang GT (before it was called off) and I stayed on his ass no matter how hard he tried to get away.

Some of the Detroit Impalas here have supercharged LT1 engines. I can believe that, but I heard some cars have supercharged Saleen engines in them. Im not sure what to believe.

The only car I think that could give my Z a run for its money would be the Trooper Camaro out here, although I've never needed to run from the police and don't plan to.

Run all you want, Motorola will love your business. As long as it's fast enough to see your plate, you're fugged!!!! By the way, my local sheriffs office was nice enough to put a comfiscated early nineties red eclipse into service, can't say I saw that coming.

its the tires.
when they bought the car new, it had tires that had a max speed rating of 115, therefore BY LAW, they have to limit the cars to 115. (theres some leeway in the number, but i forget the amount)
the older cars came with higher rated tires.
in anycase, you should still be able to catch L03s... they hit the limiter at 114 :raz:
It doesn't really matter, we have a no pursuit policy anyway. I had a doper hit me with his car a couple of weeks ago and I wasn't allowed to chase him.

The cops MIGHT not catch you in your car, but the odds are in there favor. You get on a bike they wont even try and catch you. They might try you in a neighbor hood, but with the fast acceleration you can lose them, get on the interstate bye bye cop.

When i worked at USCPD i rarley got to top a crown vic out becaus i stayed in the city 98% of the time. But the one time i did happend to be on an interstate and at about 110 it felt unsafe. I went up to like 110-115 tops. I wouldnt have taken that particular vic any faster. It may have been the hard city driveing took its toll on the suspension but didnt feel real safe to be changeing lanes at that speed in one.. Not compared to my Fbody anyway. :)
I can initiate the chase then leave it up to a supervisor to either give me the blessing or call it off. 99% of the time I'm called off, though.

I have spoken to numerous cops in PA that have had their Caprice Cop Cars (the ones with the Cervette LT1 engines) up to 160- That's where the gov. hit.
The same cops say that the Crown Vics only go to 120 because the aluminum driveshafts can't handle it. Tires might also be an issue though I doubt a car manufacturer would govern a car based on the ratings of their tires. If so, Ford Motor Company has a way to go before they build a car right. Especially if its being built for law enforcement.

Yea, that must be it.

Sorry but I don't know how to inturpret your responce. I would think that they would govern a car based on its driveshaft capabilities instead of the tire they use. Especially if they were aluminum. Aluminum is very susebtable to a weakness in its matter if not constructed rightor pure. It is indeed lighter and provides more horsepower to the wheels because of less rotating mass, but with a 3.27 rear ratio, and a 225/60R16 tire, the driveshaft would be rotating approx. 82 times/ sec. verses 110 times/ sec at 160 MPH. Big difference I think.

Maybe you should start by spelling "interpret" correctly. The rest of your post makes absolutley no sense, and after trying to read it three times, I've given up. You're an idiot.
And I've seen 130+ on the speedometer, personally (aluminum driveshaft nonwithstanding). So.... STFU?
