what i mean by that is do cops let anything under 5 over the limit slide? i know that they legally can give a ticket for anything over the limit but is it a practiced "unwritten rule" among cops that anything under 5 over doesnt need ticketing.

ive never heard of anyone in the state of SC getting a ticket for anything under 5 over (doesnt mean it hasnt happened though) and alot of people do 5 over all the time. are the cops around here just lazy or do they think that its not that big of a deal to do 5 over?

im just worried b/c i do 5 over all the time and i cant get another speeding ticket or i lose my job (i drive for the company alot) ive already got 4 speeding tickets (3 for ten or less, 1 for more than ten but less than 25), and 4 other violations (muffler violation, 2 seatbelt tickets, and not having lights on at night)

just don't do 5 over, it seems to be the easiest way to avoid any ticket

just keep in mind that cops are human... and the diff in some numbers look higher then others.

they're looking at a digital readout of your speed... not a analog gauge... so just because the numbers are close on teh gauge, doesnt mean thats what they'll see...

if you keep that in mind, you can usually get away with a lil over... but theres always the chance of a ticket.

on a side note, if you get a ticket, when you show for court, you can easily get it dropped to 1-10mph over... much better.. and that is all the insurance company will see.... they cant totally drop the ticket in SC...

you've already had 8 violations? I wouldn't let you drive a golf cart

In my department, we cannot write for anything under 5. It's allegedly to account for radar inaccuracies, but I've never come across a radar gun that didn't pass calibration checks.

dont forget the civilian driver speedo inaccuracy. between tire size diff, tire inflation, the mechanical to digital to mechanical or the cable spinning, and the printed background, most gauges are not the most accurate thing in the world.......

1. when it's dark out, turn your headlights on. they help you see.
2. wear your seatbelt.
3. drive the speed limit if you're worried about getting another speeding ticket. Unless you're driving a couple hundred miles, that extra 5 isnt going to get you to where you're going any noticeable amount faster. and if you look down and see you're 5 over, slow down by 5. [/criticism]

heres some math to back up CVD...at 60 mph you are traveling one mile per minute...at 65 mph you are traveling 1.083 miles per minute...if you are going somewhere five miles away once you reach the speed limit , it will take you 5 minutes at 60, but at 65 it will take you just a little over 4 minutes...in other words...if you are gonna speed, do it right..at 100 the same five miles would take barely over three minutes...moral of this story: if you really feel the need to speed anywhere be prepared to accept an insurance hike and a speeding ticket, if you arent prepared to accept either...go the speed limit because going five over isnt getting you anywhere all that much faster unless you got a lot of ground to cover.

not if you're found guilty of speeding.

if found guilty of speeding, its not within the judges power of dropping it completely. he can only reduce it to a under 10 over and the min punishment for that.

ofcourse, if you get it changed to a non moving violation, you can get it dropped ;)

avg speed was like 112 or somthing like that.. i forget.
i was going around 120+ on my motorcycle the entire trip. when i got gas it was just pay at the pump splash and go....
absolutly crazy when i look back at it... 12+ hours of non stop high speed and lane splitting....

but i survived, didnt kill me or anyone else, and its a fun thing to look back on.

However it IS YOUR responsibility to make sure you vehical is in proper running order, and these things are not really an excuse for speeding. Most officers do take this into consideration although they don't have to. As for MPH over here in the great state of Cul-i-four-nee-ya ,they can and do write people for just one MPH over. It just deppens on how officer Judy feels that day. :wiggle:
