I'm fixing up a 1987 Firebird GTA, and since I like to listen to some music on the road, I figure I should plunk down some cash for a decent stereo setup. I'm not looking for really strong bass, so much as clarity, and good mid-high range sound. I'm also trying to do this on a bit of a budget, so I'm purchasing used parts. Here's what I've got so far:

Rockford Fosgate RFX 9210 head unit - Got it for Christmas from my dad, same time when I acquired the car.

Pair of Infinity Kappa 6x9's - Used, the price was right, and I hear they're better than the Reference series ones, which brings us to...

Pair of Infinity Reference 4x6's - Infinity seems to be held in high regard by most, so I decided to go for their speakers all around.

Thats it for the moment, I just want to get some input on what I have so far, so any suggestions you guys might have are appreciated. Also, are Rockford Fosgate amps any good? And whats a good brand in terms of subwoofers? Once I've got the rest of the car squared away (body work, paint job), I'd like to get something in place to handle low range sound, and could use some help on what brands to use, as well as pointers for how to handle installing the stuff in a 3rd gen f-body...

i had a walmart amp and some 10in kickers. they sound sweet. now i got a 800w fosgate and 12in dvcs and they shake the weatherstrippin, but the kickers sounded way better, though not as powerful.

What you've got sounds like a great start. You should really think about getting rid of those 4X6's a.s.a.p. They're really too small to put out anything considerable except for treble. A great way to go is with a set of kickpanels. Put a nice seperate set in there and you've got quality sound. I had a pretty sweet set up in my 88 GTA, let me know if you need any further help. :)
