im looking to do an engine swap here are the specs:

1990 camaro RS, 3.1 litre, 191 ci (no engine mods at all)

im looking to purchase a 1985 camaro z-28 (exterior in horrible shape) to do a motor transplant into my car it has:

305 v8, edelbrock intake manifold, edelbrock 4 barrel racing carb, edelbrock performance camshaft, posi rear, and unknown make headers (the thing is beast trust me)

now HEREs the question...with a swap like this can the car still pass inspection with stock exhaust and is it illegal at all (this is my first transplant).

and will my VIN make a difference at all during inspection

thanks guys i appreciate any help

IIRC, an engine transplant must be of the same year or newer than the one it is replacing.

I wouldnt do it unless you knew of a place that you could purchase a sticker. In NJ those places are getting harder and harder to find. I had a hard enough time getting a 350 to pass off for a 305 in the new emmisions. The VIN will tell them what size motor you have in the car, this way they know what to test the levels at.
