Ok I just got my transmision rebuilt and i can't get it to shift to a higher gear then first. Reverse, neutral, park all work, it drives just wont shift to 2nd thru od. I was also thinking that you were supposed to adjust the kickdown thing but wasn't to sure about it so i just put it back in like it was when i took it off. and its a 700r4 out of an 87 formula 350

Take it back they screwed something up. Or a valve in the body is stuck.

Update i took it back and found out why it burnt up in the first place, the converter is being told to lock up when its not supposed to so they disconected the wire that sends that signal and now it runs right. What would make it do that? Suggestions and test procedures would be great help. o and karlseus just so you know you were right the vavle body was sticking since i didn't flush the lines or somthing when i put it back on.

o and one other thing if it is computer related i had a chip burned for it that was supposed to set shift points(atleast that was one of the things it did). Don't know if that has anything to do with it just trying to give all the details.

The computer is connected to the transmission. That is what the cable came from. I installed a shift kit on my 85 camaro and it would not shift either when i was done. Fortunately I knew what the problem was. There is a clip that holds in the power valve and it was not seated in properly. It poped forward and would not shift. So it seemed simular to what i went through.
