I have a 92 L98 Z28 and just put a 2000 SS rear end in with 3.73's. The rear has a whine to it on DEceleration. No grinding noise. Used synthetic royal purple gear oil, which says you don't have to use the limited slip additive. Help me out please. Just want to make sure it isn't gonna die soon, not many miles on it either.

could be the pinion nut that tightens down on the crush sleve / bearing is not tight enough.

i replaced my mom's pinion seal and crush sleve thingy and i thought i tighten it down good enough but it still whines when i am not on the gas.

been working fine over a year now with that whine.

Normally when the pinion gear is either to close or far away from the ring gear you will get a whining noise accelerating or decelerating. I can't remember which one is associated with the other. As long as the pinion is tight I don't think I would worry about it.

Your backlash is not setup properly. That means you have an incorrect wear pattern on your ring and pinion. More than likely this is the case. I've had three sets of gears not setup properly and that's what it was doing.
