My car is a 1985 Camaro. I installed a Used TPI setup. And It was running Great. Now all of a sudden It runs Fine for like 5 minutes then suddenly Dies. When I go to start it up again it will turn over but will not start. When I turn the key to the Off position for 20 seconds and then try to start it, It starts right up then a couple of minutes later the same thing Dies. It just started doing this.

The car has a brand new 350 engine and Various new sensors.
I checked the Fuel pressure and it was Fine. I also checked the Fuel cutoff switch and that was fine. I also disconnected the MSD and that did not solve the problem.

When it Dies it dies quickly as if the key was shut off. No sputter. Once in a while it will just idle at a slightly lower RPM and come back. There are no Codes preasent. When it is running it sounds fine.

Oh yea, I also tried a different ECM and The same problem.

It is a complete 1985 TPI setup for the 350.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think a bad maf brun-off relay might cause that, but not sure. I've also heard of a bad egr valve causing something similar.

Other than that, start with the usual. Get someone to crank it for you during the time it won't run, check for spark, and check for fuel.

I think it's pretty safe to say there are no mechanical problems since it runs fine for short periods of time.

Check this out. It was a loose ground wire. The ground wire from the fuel tank was looseing connection and causeing this problem. I was unable to find where it terminates so i just grounded it where i could get to it on the inside of the car.

The problem went away for a couple of days and I thought i had fixed the problem when i tightened down the harness passthrough. A couple of days later the problem came back. This time I noticed that me fuel guage was also getting dissconnected. That is how i found the problem. Thanks for your help.
