I am certifide in the state of ohio, looking for a full time job, its tough. Found a part time/auxillary job for a small township pd. the only catch is you have to pay for your own gear. What type do you all use or recommend? Also what type/caliber is your on duty and off duty weapon?
thanks
Matt

Any other weapons you could recommend. What about Sigs? Dont like Glocks, bad experience, plus dont like the fit in my hand. Do you think the nylon duty gear will hold up or spend the extra money and get the leather?

I don't like Glocks either, and I've watched Sigs fall apart (literally) at the range. I actually kinda like some of the S&W stuff but won't buy it due to their politics. I'm sticking with my Beretta.
Go with the nylon gear, much better than leather imho. Ya want show and SHINE (hint, hint) go with leather.

Really Sigs falling apart on the range. I have heared nothing but good things from Sig owners. In the academy some people were sponsored and had to use the S&W's from the dept. and they sucked. I guess every brand is going to have something bad or someone with a bad experience. Guess I'll just have to spend some time at the range shooting each one to find the best one for me :)
What brand of nylon do you like; unlce mikes, premier, etc...?

thanks for all the help

Mike's seems to work well. A partner of mine had his Sig self destruct on the range. It had to be sent back to the factory. They don't like dirt! IMHO of course. If I had it my way I'd be carrying a Colt .45 auto. I've been shooting Colt's for 25 years plus, just no departments allow you to carry them. (SA that is)

I carry a Sig 226 as my primary duty weapon and a Glock 26 in an ankle holster.

The Sig........well, I bought it because I got a great deal on it. It's got the nickel plated slide, which is very hard to find. It doesn't fire as accurately as the Beretta 92FS I sold to buy the Sig. I wish I had the Beretta back. Overall, though, it's sturdy in construction and doesn't fall apart at the range.

The Glock. I wish I had one as a duty weapon. The accuracy of my 26 is unequalled by any other firearm I've ever fired. Absolutely love it.

I'm now saving my pennies for an H&K 45SP that I've had my eyes on for a while. The Mercedes Benz of firearms. :)

As for duty gear, don't get nylon. It'll wear out on you 1000 times faster than leather. Bite the bullet and invest in some good leather gear. You won't regret it.

so far the Beretta is the choice the two of you would make. I figured I would go for the leather, just seems to hold up better. Couple of the instructors at the range had a H&K seemed nice, the other had Sigs, but us academy slime got the Glock 22's. Thanks for all the info and help. If i get the job I'll let you know what I get.
Thanks again
Matt

I know they can be pricey but what about H&K?

H&K is a Mercedes
Ruger is a Ford Escort

Everything else is in between. :)
