I am about to get a 3rd Generation Trans-Am with a 5speed. I did a search to find out any information on the 5speed and I didn't find much. If anyone has any information on the stock 5speed tranny please post it here. Thanks for your help.

Also, I heard that these trannys wont hold up to much torque and in a few months I was planning on putting a 383 Stroker motor in. Is there a way i can beef this tranny up or not. Thanks for your help again.

My Trans Am is a factory 5speed. What kinda info you looking for? If you plan on racing it with the 383 I'd be looking to replace it with either a 6 speed or a tremec 5 speed.

yeah two t-5 's in thirdgens, t-5 and the world class one. the wc can hold pretty good on the 350 if u dont drop clutch alot / power shift.

I was thinking about changing the T-5 to a T-56. Does anyone know of any real good rebuild kits for the T-56 that can take alot of hp and tq? Thanks for your help.

if your only building a 383 then just a plain t-56 should be plenty, that trans is rated at 450 lb. ft. Unless you plan on dropping the cluth/ power shifting every time, you should be fine

yeah i agree a stock t-56 should hold fine, i wouldnt go about using slicks in the rear or drop the clutch all the time. depending on how much the engine makes.
