Berl - Base Model?

A friend of mine told me the Berl was just a base model Camaro, is this true? My brother owned one when I was younger but I was too young to remember much about it.

The primary thing I remember was the stereo that sat on a rectangular panel that was mounted on a swivel about 4 inches infront of the dash. I remember exactly what it looked like and Ive never seen it on another Camaro.

not at all, the berlinetta was about the same price as a Z28, and had many options not available on any other thirdgen. the Berlinetta was designed to be a luxuary Camaro, with extra soundproofing, softer ride etc, almost like an American Jaguar XJ-S

the Sport Coupe was the base Camaro.
