I know y'all prob heard this question like a million times but id just like someone (who really knows what theyre talking about) to just list all or most of the important parts that need to be changed for a V6 to 350 V8 swap. Nothing too complex or wordy just a parts list...thanks a lot!! :conf:

I am curious for the same and also curious is it worth going to an lt-1 5.7 or would going to a newer engine be better (switching from a 3.1 1991) like maybe a 3.8 or 6.3 or soemthing i dunno.
-i was told you must first reinforce the frame/ sway bars? or it will twist with the added torque-especially t-top versions
need new:
-engine
-motor mounts
-computer
-Rear End
possibly i think new:
-transmission?
maybe an adapter if not correct transmission or transfer case, this is all stuff i heard around wherever so.....
and you know there's always a bunch of other stupid little crap that always pops up that everyone forgot about.....

I'm attempting to do the same to a 91 3.1 to a tpi 305
So another person asking for advice got motor and trany

my 87 RS V-6 just developed a massive knocking noise. I found out it was the thrust bearing is gone. I can grab the balancer and move the whole crank assembly 1/4". so Im thinkin about either swapin out another 2.8L, or put in a stroker 3.4L or swapin to a 5.7L. I know for the V-8 swap you gonna need the whole injection system, computer, wiring harness, a V-8 tranny, and the radiator and fans.

I dunno about the parts list so much but i do know thrashdrums that my friend has a factory 350 tpi w/ t-tops so no your not going to twist the frame on street tires with a v8 swap unless your talking about something major...

I'm actually wondering the same thing. I have he 173ci 2.8L v6 and I want a 5.7L v8 BADDDD. Anyone know anything about emissions? I realize it probably varies from state to state but it should all be the same ballprk type of information. Is it ok to swap a v8 into a v6 car at 20 years old? :| I hate emissions.

look up your states cut off for nazi e-check exemption. if the car is old enough, then your golden. OH (or at least this part) is shitty 25yrs

i am almost finished with mine, it is a carbed 81 350, so i dident have to wory about wireing, this is what i used,
-motot bracket (has to be 3rd gen because engine sits lower)
-frame mounts
-B&M th350 changeover kit (needed if u dont use 3rd gen trany because of torque arm mount)
-headers (i am told u can only use headers or thirdgen exaust manifolds)
-radiator
-new exaust
-new fuel pump (if swaping from fuel injected to carbed, also can use a regulater)
i might be missing something, but for the most part this is all the major parts u will need, use forward most holes to mount frame mounts, u will need a few more minor comon sence things.
srry for spelling

the pass front brake lines needs to be moved or replaced as the vee-ate motor mount will be going where the brake line bends.
I'm swappng the out the 3800, since it doesn't run on it's own anymore, to a (BAH GAWD!!!) 305 w/everythign included.
Anybody have an emissions sheet for an 87 LG4??? I want to compare the numbers tthey required to the 85 2.8 fulie.

ok heres one for u guys i have done many engine swaps in 3rd gens but all were small block to small block swaps well i got my gf an 89 rs with a 2.8 and just finished building a nice 355 for her i have everything to swap in the small block and trans even got lucky and got a fully optioned 87 iroc that was totaled for parts but my question is will the 2.8's in tank fuel pump have enough volume to run with a v8 i was thinking ill just plump in a fuel preasure regulator to drop it to 6-8 psi for the carb this way i dont have to modify the pickup in the tank or any of that stuff so i can just use the exsisting fuel system setup but i was told that the elec pump wont be able to suport the right volume of fuel can anyone help with this

i dont see why it shouldnt, fuel injection runs on high pressure, so it should have no problems keeping up with 8 psi.

well i was told injectors work on preasure not volume and that the v6 pump was pretty small compared to the pump size u need for a healthy 355 figured it best to ask then try it and have a fuel starvation prob at high rpm anyone know what a v6 pump actually flows ?

are you running a carb or fuel injection?

carb, holley street avenger 670 i really need to know the volume of fuel that a v6 elec pump will move from what ive been told so far that even running the lower preasure the pump cant handle the fual demands of a v8

i dont see why a fuel pump designed to run at ~25psi cant handle 8psi.

but if a v6 pump only flows say hypothetiacally 25 psi @ 20gph even if u drop that down to 8psi the pump will only move slightly more then the 20gph so unless the v6 pump can flow the correct gph rate it wont work thats why i need to know the correct gph flow rate of the intank v6 pump this way i can do the math and see if it will be enough for the v8

teh v6 pump runs up to 45 psi. Maybe 25psi if it has like 7volts ging to it. I'm eith er gonna use a return style afpr or even a voltage stepdown & ee about getting the fp to hit around 7psi for my carb.

motor mounts
Passenger side brake line from v8 car (or you can just bend it)
if using injection you need the harness and computer from v8 car
if using carb come to my house and look at me harness (its all separated so it looks factory)
tv cable bracket
v8 radiator

I'm sure that will help him alot, seeing how this thread is 4rys old.

The best way to do the swap is go to a carborated motor that way you dont have to change the harness or puter
