...sort of, for me and Faith. Her father is dying in Phoenix and we are heading out tomorrow by jet to hopefully get there before the end comes. We have no clue what to expect in the way of his final preparation, such as a will, ins policy, etc. God I hope he had it together and planned ahead.

He went to the hospital a few weeks ago for medication as he suffers from emphazema. They admiited him though instead and he's gone down hill since. The doctor told him then maybe he had 6 months to live...looks like 6 days now. It caught us totally by surprise when the hospital called and said he may not last much longer. He has a truck and if it looks roadworthy, we'll return in that with whatever he had left in personal possessions.

With my grandmother last Nov and now him, I know of better and more peaceful ways to see the country.

We didn't make it in time. He died shortly before our arrival. He was in his 70's and lived a hermit's life you could say. It was only recently he took the initiative to contact the family and re-establish a relationship after he left his wife/family back in the 50's. I doubt I'll have much time to look Phoenix over as he left his estate unsettled. As far as we can find so far, we can find no will or ownership papers of his property which for the most part includes a small trailer and a 96 Dakota. I had expectations of driving back to Ohio with it but after running it around, I have my doubts it would endure the trip. With no will, this will most likely turn into a legal nightmare and we have only so much time to spend down here to settle it.

Yesterday we contacted the banks to see if he may have had a security box, arranged for his cremation and spent 6 grueling hours cleaning his trailer.

Today we'll contact an attorney to see if he really did file a will. It's our only hope now I guess.

Biggest adjustment has been the heat, 105+. Their saying that it's dry heat is a bunch of bull...it's still freaking hot. My wife is dying here with the heat. The trailer has A/C but it's not cranking out enough cold to suit her nor me. We luckily found a motel close by for an escape.

Another adjustment is the time difference, 3 hours. I've been up since 2:30 Pacific time as my body is still eastern time. I've been walking outside, sipping coffee for an hour, anything to pass the time. While bullshitting with the desk clerk he told me of the computer room so here I sit. It's nice to get on even if it is AOL.

Beautiful country though. I considered for a wee small moment of keeping the trailer and using it as a winter retreat but my senses caught up to me quickly.

Here's a view of what would be his backyard.

I feel your pain, my flight back from Cali transfered in Phoenix. It is hotter than hell there! That was bad enough then we had to sit and cook in the plane for 45 minutes before it took off! :( While his back yard has a nice view, I would rather live in the Mojave in California, all that pretty scenery and the BNSF to boot...

Well good luck, I hope you manage to get some train shots while there.

I doubt if time will allow it as we're too tied up with the legalities now. Right now, we just want to get out of Phoenix and make it a distant memory.
