Just need some advice before I take a slegde hammer to the car.....My fuel pump went out and was wondering if I could hook up a Holley or aftermarket high performance pump to avoid droppin' the back out. If not, any ways to make the pump exchange easier? Thanks :conf:

you may as well replace the pump. If you install an aftermarket inline pump, you will need to remove the fuel pump in the tank to make it work anyways... sorry to tell you this, but dropping the gas tank is about your only way.

I cut an 'access panel' to access my fuel pump by folding the top half of the rear seat forward, peeling back the carpeting, and using a saws-all to make (for a lack of better words) a hole in the sheet metal directly above the fuel tank sending unit/fuel pump.

Basically, I got the car w/ a fuel pump issue... and I had NO desire to start dropping rear ends and fuel tanks... no sir. My goal was to have the car functional w/ the minimum amount of 'dicking around'.

Here's a few pics of what needs to be done:

I re-sealed the 'hole' back up by folding the cut metal back into place and pop riveting a piece of sheet metal back over the hole. I then waterproofed it w/ a sheet of "Ice and Water Shield", which is a common roofing material that is rubberized, fly-paper sticky, and obviously waterproof.

To me, an access panel makes sense... to others though, it's like pulling teeth.
