Greetings everyone. I have an '84 berlinetta here with a 2.8L V6. A few months after I bought the car, it started knocking, and it was a "ugly" knock, too. I removed the engine to find the #4 piston had shattered completely and left a 3/8" x 6" score on the cylinder wall. Time for a new block. I found another engine to fit the car, and installed it. A couple months later, started knocking again. It was the SAME THING in this engine also. Could this be a really really bad coincidence, or could there be something awry in my carb or spark to cause a cylinder to do this? I used the same accessories and such from the original engine. The only thing I didn't use was the intake manifold.
