I have a V6 Camaro, 1991 RS, 3.1L. I know it's painfully slow, it looks nice, but slow. I'd at least! Like my car to be of average speed. Of course everyone has a different definition of average, so I'll give you mine. I would love if there was some way to have my little 6 bangers be in the high 100s in horses, 180 or more. I've done nothing to it, it is so bone stock it's disgusting. It has 90k miles on it, and since I"ve invested so much, I'd like to go further. I'm asking to be let known step by step things I could do to enjoy my ride a little more. Chips, exhaust.. what will each do for me? prices etc. yes I'm asking specifics, but I was referred here from chevytalk.com cuz no one answers anything over there.
2 other questions, I have a busted electronic egr valve, the shop I go to wants to charge me a little over 400 for a non after market valve and labor. That seems a little high, don't ya think? I also, I would like to get my car painted. The previous owners had an ambassador paint job from Maaco  and it's beginning to look dingy. I had an appraisal on a paint job to be 2300, that's gotta be ridiculous, hey let me know what you guys think

I have a 91 RS with a 3.1L too. I haven't really done anything to it yet. I just put an ASP crank pulley on and a K&N filter. It opened it up a little bit. I'm looking into ordering custom headers from this guy greg over at Thirdgen.org. Here's the link (http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/showthread.php?threadid=160965) Once, I get the headers I'd like to replace my stock exhaust with the Dynomax cat-back system.
Don't know anything about the egr valve except you can get one from AutoZone or Advance Auto parts for $180. I was told those aren't toohard to install yourself. I could be wrong though.
$2300 isn't bad for a paint job, I had mine appraised and they wanted $3500. That's cuz I have some surface rust on the wheel wells and I also wanted stripes on the hood.
I've done some other little stuff to my car too. I have a link to my website in my sig. If you have any questions on prices. Just IM or e-mail me.

Hey all,
I just rebuilt mine and I don't have a stock item on it anymore, pretty much. :D :D I could answer anything for ya from the engine to the rear end. I just bought a posi rear for this one and I'm making custon LCA's and panhard rod's too. I started out at about 140 hp and now I'm up to about 225 or so. I'll have to dyno it once I get the headers on when I get back.

with a paint job you get what you pay for...
My Dad has restored and painted winning show cars for like over 45 years and is AMAZING. I love when my friends ask for him to paint their cars cause they have no clue how expensive it can get. I am lucky and I help and he does it for cost of materials for me, and it's still a TON. Like by the time you do any sanding or welding (wheel well rust, just little stuff even). Then useing good (expensive) primer, 2-3 coats of paint, then the Clear Coat, You're into high dollars. I originally wanted to go my original "brilliant red" in Kamelion paint, the pearly color changing stuff that'd change to Silver in the sun, but that stuff is like $210-$230 a Pint, and that's insane, not to mantion the costs of the other stuff i mentioned as well as hardenors and activators.....
Anyway what i am saying is if you want a good paint job it isn't cheap but if you get it done right it can pay off, if you keep it garaged and washed, and bird crap and weird leaves off of it.. those things can all mess of paint quick. I bought my 91 Firebird wrecked and replaced the Nose cone with a Fiberglass Knight Rider Kitt nose, replaced the wrecked fender and headlight, as well as added the extra set of fog lights and scanner to model the Kitt style more. But being a 1991 I had ground effects on the car so i cut them off the old rubber nose cone and molded them to the new one, and being dark red, it's a very different, badass, original looking car, i get looks everywhere with the scanner of or off. Now I am contemplating between the Kamelion Pearl silver/gold logo for my hood or replacing it with a Fiberglass WS6 Ram Air hood..... pix should be up soon...

I hope this is not to late, THE DIGITAL EGR is $180 new BUT!!!! you can if you like pull one from a 3.4L V6 4th gen camaro like I did ITS THE SAME THING! $50 at a salvage yard. Pace setter makes a set of headers for 3rd gen 2.8-3.1L but you will have to adapt the digital EGR to them but its not that hard, you just have to make sure you use YOUR factory EGR riser from your stock manifold, it will bolt up. Now you can, if you like put 3.73 posi gears in your car, here is the trick, goto the junkyard and look for a 4X4 2.8L Blazer, the factory gears ARE 3.73 posi but only on the 4X4 2.8L. Take the whole carrier ring and pinnion and all, put in Camaro BAM!
Pace Setter part number PSM-70-1206 $208 at http://www.summitracing.com/
They also have them Ceramic coated!!
Part number PSM-72C1206
Also goto http://www.gmgoodwrench.com//perfpartsjsp/home.jsp
Goto Engine Parts then 60* V6's
