in the garage. My transmission cable has been bad for a while now and it finally went out on me yesterday morning. When I try to shift it won't catch . before I had to feel for it to catch gears. I hope I'm explaining it right. I'm not very good with all this techical stuff on cars.I'd try to shift down to D for drive but it go into neutral or reverse cuz it wasn't shifting right. I should of known it was going to go soon because it wouldnt even stay in park. I made an appointment a week ago for the mechanic to see it but he only time he was available is monday. My car just didn't hold out. The only good thing coming out of all this chaos is that I'm getting my Megashifter installed. I don't know how we are going to get my car out of the garage though. It's gonna be hard to push. I'm lucky though. We only have to push it like a block and a half. The mechanic is at the end of my street. I sure do miss driving my camaro. I had to christmas shopping and it's not fun or cool driving the mini van. ;)

Just a little advice for ya. Those megashifter cables tend to break too. I had it happen to me only after a year of having it installed. Plus ive heard other stories from other people with the same problem. Im pretty sure though that they sell a stronger cable for it.

I started dismantling my dash this morning. My CD player sticks out a little bit so i couldn't lft the console plate off. i didn't want the mechanic to rip out my CD player and screw things up. Well I got that out. I fired up the car, tried givig it one last shift and nothing. So my dad and I tried pushing it and the damn thing is stuck in park. So my dad and I start ripping the center console apart trying to get to the park lock cable to release it. We can't get the shifter nob off lol. So we can't reach the cable. I don't know what to do now. The car won't budge and i can't get to the cable. I think it's gonna get towed. I'd hate to spend all that money just to tow it to the end of the street. My dad and I are very frustrated.

I had to take my center console off because my car wouldnt shift out of first, to get the shifter knob off there is a staple towards the fron of the car that is hard to see because it blends in with the stitching, find it and shove a screw driver under it

Oh man, I wish I had seen your post sooner... I don't remember what your console and shifter look like, but mine is only removable after you pop the "button" out. Then you can access the retaining clip that holds the shifter on.
The other alternative is to remove the cable from the transmission, itself, and manually rotate the lever on the tranny to remove the car from "Park". Actually, if the cable is "broken", as in severed, you should be able to move that lever by hand without detaching the cable from it.
I hope you were able to do something to save you the $$$ for a short tow!

The mechanic couldn't get to my car today cuz he was the only one working at the station. But I managed to get shifter knob off. I had to pop the button off and I go that staple out. So the whole console is torn apart. There are two cables that connect to the shifter. The right one is the park lock, i was so tempted to disconnect it but i didnt want to screw anything else up. So the mechanic is going to stop by my house tomorrow and take it over from there. Now that's service huh?? ;)

i gave him the puppy dog eyes and a little sniffle, hehe just kiddin' :) The RS got towed at 11:30 this morning. And let me tell ya something....It looked sweet going down the street. So red and shiney :D When we got it to the gas station the mechanic looked under te car and he said a bracket was off. So he pulled the cable and it came out of park. So at least my cable wasn't busted. He was also glad to see that we had the dash disassembled. All I want is the shifter in and I'll put everything back together since I have to put my radio back in and rewire stuff. Hopefully, I'll get it back thursday so i can pimp around town using my new shifter lol. :D

Alright, I'm getting mad... I still don't have my car yet. The guy working on my car under estimated the project. He says he has to reroute wires and cables. He also says i lose the parking lock. Which I was aware of but he's not very happy about it cuz it's a safety issue. He says that i don't need keys in the column to shift out of park etc. There's a few other things that he's not happy about either such as having to shift into neutral before i shift into drive or reverse. I think he feels that i can't handle the shifter. To me it's not that big of a deal cuz i knew what i was getting into. I dunno, but all I know is that it's gonna be like a three hour project to get the shifter in and he's busy so i can't get my car back until monday now.
