I have an '86 Z28 with a 85mph speedo which I really can't stand (I want to have some idea of how fast I'm going on the motorway/autobahn) and I have the opportunity to get a 145mph speedo from a later car... the question is are all 3rd gen speedos interchangable or are some mechanical and others electrical? :conf:

Also issues have been raised about fitting IROC wheels to non IROC cars... namely IROC optioned cars have slightly different spindles on the front and a slightly different rear track - is this so?

any advice gratefully received :D

i had the same problem with my 84, heres what i know , camaros had a speedometer cable until 1990,i think, so if you get one from before that then you are ok, trans ams went to electrical in 86, and i think before that they only had 85 mph speedometers anyway. i got a 120 mph one from an 89 firebird but decided it was to complicated to switch and i didnt have the time, if you want to try to convert to electrical i can give you the site which has the directions but you are better off just getting a cable driven one from a camaro, thats an easy switch. b

I believe everthing 84305ta is correct. If you only want the wheels then they they will fit fine but you may get some wheel rub on the front wheels because the spindles are different sizes, and iroc and t/a wheels have different offsets for front and rear but many people have done it so I guess it's not that bad. The rear axles are all the same.

The camaro went to electric speedo in 89. The same year they switched to the 28 spline axles, the speed density system on some, and the world class T5 instead of the regular one. Classic Industries offers a 140 mph speedo for cable driven speedos, its black face with white letters. Go to www.ClassicIndustries.com

thanks for the help guys... managed to get myself a 140 speedo vitually brand new (15 miles) for about $100... a real result over here in the UK... managed to get 3 88-90 16" IROC alloys, I know that you can't use just 3!!! <smile> - but for $230 it's too good to turn down... now watch me spend ages trying to find the last remaining one lol

You might try www.3rdgenresource.com. I don't know if they would ship to the UK for you or not though.

BTW, the front/rear markings should be on the inside of the wheel near the lug holes.
