Hello, it's been awhile since i've posted but I have a question. Does anybody have any experience with running a 383 shortblock with the tpi heads and still using the factory tpi fuel injection. any help would be appreciated. And i'm only able to get on the internet at work right now so it may be a couple days before I get a chance to check back.
thanks

well
the flow of your stock TPI heads sucked.
the flow if your stock TPI sucks.
you're increasing the displacement more.
unless you want a 383 making almost no power, i would go with a diffrent intake system/heads.
if you cant afford it now... wait.. trust me, its worth it to wait, then it is to do it twice...

yeah the tpi sucks but my crank and 1 piston in my 350 is toast :( so i'm thinking of doin the 383 now since I have to do a shortblock anyways. I'm just hoping it will all run or do I need a chip for the ecu or anything.

it would run, but not very well... you should burn a new chip for it...

just go carb like I am going to. There are more choices on intakes and carbs. No need to speed 250-400 bucks for runners, the 250 for a base, then another 350 for a tb.
Then you still have to burn a chip and have all those sensors.
Im making mine simple. But its not a daily driver either.

Thats kinda what I was wondering about. If it would run with a custom chip then I may do it, depending on the cost of the chip. I figure since I have to do something with the shortblock anyways, and I can get the 383 shortblock for $600, and I can add the heads and intake later as budget allows. Oh and we have smog around here so the fuel injection has to stay.

I think it is in your best interest to do some homework.... The 383 will of course require a 400 crank which means you will need a special kit to keep using your one piece rear main seal.... you will also have to get another flexplate/flywheel made for a 400 crank ..... a new harmonic balancer.....

Yeah there are a lot of things you need to consider when planning a 383. You say you can get the shortblock for $600. Does that include the block, or is it just a rotating assembly? If it doesnt include the block, then you need to find out if it is a 1 piece rear main crank or a 2 piece, and which you need to fit your current block. Also, is it internally or externally balanced? I prefer internally balanced. And most importantly, what will the compression ratio be with your heads? That's very important, as most 383 setups are designed for a larger cc head than the L98's 64ccs. And as mentioned above, a custom chip would help a lot too.
