I have recently completed the T56 swap in my 91 Z28. There were a few choice words spoken during the installation. The clutch master/slave assembly was a pain because the assembly sits behind the brake booster and you also have to use the little plastic retainer off of your old assembly to attatch the new one to your pedal. If I had the choice again to order my crossmember I would not order from SKULTE. The fit was not perfect and the design needs improvement. There are two sharp edges that protrude forward so that if you made contact with a speed bump it will tear them right off. I tried it out on the highway and at 65 mph I hit 6th gear and almost killed the car it idled down so low. So now I HAVE TO put some 4.10's or 3.73's in my car along with a 4th gen Zexel posi unit.

nice title...heh
yea, but now that you have the 6spd, you'll probly get better gas miliage after you put gears in then you did before swapping to the t56.
got pics of the swap?

I got a chance to try out the new tranny. With the same gears that I had, the new tranny pulls a little harder in 5th than the old tranny I got my car up to about 137 mph and wasnt topped out yet, and still had 6th gear to use. After I put my new 4th gen posi gear carier in with my 4.10s I am going to try it again.

Nice...so what gears do you have in there right now XLR8TORZ28? I'm in the midst of ordering my Aftermarket T56 right now. Would you know by any chance if they sell a hurst shifter specifically made for the aftermarket T56? I've looked on the net here and there but I can't seem to find one.

I have 3.08's right now.... first gear sucks..... About the shifter, that is a good question... I would assume that it would take the same as a stock T56 because the aftermarket T56 and the GM T56 are both made by Tremec... I know you will have a little harder time finding a crossmember for the aftermarket T56..... I know that Skulte has them but I bought one of theirs and I dont like the design.... You might try Spohn performance .... And as far as brand of shifters, I have heard bad things about Hurst.... My choice was between Pro 5.0 and the B&M Ripper.... since the pro 5.0 wasnt a short throw shifter I got the B&M..... What do you plan to do about your speedo ?

3:08s...dang. At least gas milage is ok.
I don't know yet about the speedo. How can I correct it to correspond properly with my gears? 3:73s to be exact. jus ordered up my spohn TA/crossmember with the driveshaft today. Looks like all is left is to order my shifter and correct my speedo.

Great job on the swamp man. I've been researching this swamp for some time, and I want to do it to my 82 T/A with a 200C(No overdrive) and 3.73 gears in the back. All I need is more money. If anyone wants to help, I'll take donations. Spohn has a nice design with a torque arm that bolts to up to the crossmember, instead of the tranny.
XLR, what kind of tranny did you have to start with? And were you able to use the stock chip? One more if you don't mind, where did the T-56 come from?

1.The speedo problem - if you have an electronic speedo like I did you can order the SGI-5 from www.DakotaDigital.com for $79.95.... its kind of a pain to set it up but once you get use to how it works then its easy..... and by the way your yellow wire will be send signal wire on your factory harness ...... and make sure you follow directions...... twist the wires running the speed sensor together and put them in a wire loom by themselves or you will get interference......
2. tranny - the tranny I used came out of a '97 Z28, and I got it for $400.00 from my buddy at the dealership (hook-up)
3. Chip - I am still using the stock chip, but I already had a manual trans in my car, I would suggest switching to a manual chip so your computer isnt trying to monitor an automatic.... you may have to put an electric speedo in your car .....
With the six speed I would really suggest the 4.10 gears.... my RPMs with my stock T5 and 3.08 gears (in 5th gear) will be the same with the T56 and 4.10 gears (in 6th gear)
