I'm going to put my new weatherstrip on my trunk tomorrow and I was wondering if i need any kind of adhesive to hold it down. I don't wanna put it on and then have it all come off or leak everywhere. Thanks.

Erin,
It would be a good idea to clean the lip of metal thoroughly once the old weatherstripping is removed. Reseal the metal with paint - the POR15 stuff works great for rust prevention, and you can brush it on. It's an epoxy type paint that will "flow" as it dries - the finished surface will look practically like you sprayed it on. This stuff is a great rust preventative, and it's hard as nails.
I would recommend you use a black 3M weatherstrip adhesive when installing the new weatherstrip. It will both help seal and prevent the lip of the metal from rusting if you scratch it during installation.

well it installation was a success. There was no rust(thank god). I carefully looked at the weatherstrip and it did have an adhesive on it already. It fit perfectly and it looks good. We tested it and it works. so yay hehe. no more leaky trunk.
