I recieved a letter from Texas Dept. of Public Safety that I recieved a conviction for operating a motor vehicle on a public highway without financial responsibility on 5/30/02 resulting in the suspension of my license effetive 21 days from the date of the order which is 7/04/02. I have not been given a ticket for no insurane at all lately(last one was 4yrs ago). I was given a ticket for drivng 75 in a 55 in Nov.01 but that is about it. WTF is going on ! They give instructions to get a SR-22 and send in the proof before the 21 days and all will be fine. I 've got insurance right now(liability) would that be enough for them or do I have to get the "SR-22" even if they are full of it.

Contact you state dept of public safety or equivalent to find out for sure why they sent the letter.
Here in Oklahoma, they have it set up so that if you allow you vehicle insurance to expire & it is not picked up with another company, or you get insurance & then cancel it say like right after you tag the car, the Oklahoma Dept of Public Safety gets you info from the insurance company & suspend you.
Now, this may sound like a law that works, but from what I have seen there have been many that are suspended for the wrong reason, or just plain suspended when they shouldn't have.
If you have a car broke down in your back yard & let the insurance expire, I have a problem with the insurance sending in your name. Its' none of their business if the car is broke down or you just changed companies.
About 5 years ago, our records Sgt had his license suspended for canceling his insurance (he canceled it when he sold the car). He was suspended & couldn't drive his vehicles let alone dept vehicles until he got it straightened out.
Good Luck!
Couple of questions....
1. Is the address on your license current? Was it current when they said the citation was issued?
2. Was your insurance requested, but you didn't have it yet didn't receive a ticket?
3. Were you in an accident where you couldn't provide insurance?
It sounds eerily familiar to me. This happens when a person is mailed a citation for FMFR to their license address, yet that address isn't current as per state law.
If your address was/isn't current, that's what happened and there isn't anything you can do but take the high rate SR-22 rate.

1. No it is not current.
2.Yes, it was requested (did not have it with me) and got no ticket.
3.No accident(knock on wood)
My last ticket was on Nov. and the letter I got says that they convicted me of failure to provide proof of liability insurace(something like that)on 5/30/02. Also when the officer asked for my license I was honest(or stupid enough) to tell him that my license address was not current and gave him my new address. He gave me a ticket for that and told me to correct it and more than likely the ticket would be dismissed. I did and it was dismissed. I will get the SR-22 and figure everything out later because I need my license to get to and from work. I recieved the letter on 7/4/02 so I can't let 21 days from that day pass without them having the proof of the SR-22. Knowing me I will wait till almost the last minute and have to overnight the darn thing.
The only other thing I can figure is that someone used your name and date of birth to get a ticket and when the officer ran your license, your old address was on the ticket. That would mean that the warrant went to that old address at the time, thus you wouldn't know about it.
