OK, I'm 16 and live around the gulf shores area of Alabama, i work by the beach, the other day after i got off work i went down to the main beach road, the "strip" as alot of teen agers call it, i was crusing around, it was about 12 midnight, i got off at 11:40, and i pulled up to a red light in the turning lane to turn left, there was one car beside me going strait, and a couple cars in the road across from me, wel the light turned green and i hit the gas, i was late, and i broke the tires loose, i didn't powerbrake it or anything, i just spun the tires. Evidently the cop was sitting at the red light across from me, and he slapped me with a wreckless driving ticket, what can i do, and how much do you think it will be for, i HAD a clean driving record before this happened. Thanks for the help.

Did your car slide sideways or leave your lane in any manner?

Around here, what you describe would probably fall under Careless/Negligent Driving. Reckless is considered more serious & in 13 years I think that maybe I've written 6. Reckless carries more points on the license, or maybe I'm a softy, so I tend to write the lesser of the two.
You might see if you can visit with you city attorney or prosecutor & they might reduce it if you explain this to them!
Good Luck!

In UTAH, that would have been exhabition driving. Spin your tires 1 inch in any direction and that's exhabition.

He should have wrote how much the max fine is on your ticket, here we do anyway.
Here just taking off kinda fast would just be an improper technically, but could also easily be articulated into wreckless or careless driving as well. Depending on the circumstances. Did you ever leave your lane while doing all this burning out and was there anyother cars around?

I was in the turning lane turning left and there was maybe two cars around and the cop was sitting behind a bush, so i couldn't see him, i didn't get sideways or anything i just spun em a lil at the light and then a little half way through the turn. :(
