Well let me give some background info as to what happened....
Last friday night my friend and I were going over another friend's house. Wanting to show off the firebird that i just got, when i turned onto the street i dropped it all the way down and gunned it. I got the thing up to about 90 before i shut down (363 ft. lbs @ 2800 RPM at the wheels accelerates real quick :) ) Anyway, i continue driving down the street which is over 1/2 mile to her house. I drive past her house, turn around in a neighbors driveway, then park on the side of the street. My friend hops out, I have my leg out the door when i see a cop coming towards me.. He gets right by my car, flicks the lights and pulls almost into my car door. Yells at me and my friend to get back in the car.... I'm freakin out as I just got this car and I know my parents are waiting for me to screw up so they can keep me from driving it (mom hates the car.). Well to make a long story short he ended up giving me a warning and let me off.
My question is could he really have given me a speeding ticket?? I know he didnt use radar on me, as we weren't on a main street.... he must have been coming down a side street and seen me. Also he obviously didn't pace me or anything as it took him a good minute or two to get to my car (was getting out already). So can a cop give a ticket based strictly on the fact that he thinks i was speeding but doesnt have evidence to prove so?
And so i don't get flamed.... Yes the road is considered a residential area and i know its 25 mph in these areas. However... the street is over a 1/2 mile long with only a few houses on the street itself - - there are side streets branching off of it w/ houses on those, but not many on the street itself. Also it was at like 10:00 at night w/ the temp being around 40 *F, so I don't think many children/people will be out walking around.
