That's just because it's written in the vehicle code that you can't have a modified exhaust. Hey...I don't make it up, I just enforce it. ;)

just think of it this way, i fucking hate rap. i laugh at the dumb bastard when he gets pulled for thumping..... :raz:

my advice is to do one of the following:

1 electric or cable activated cutout... if you have inspections, put it AFTER the cat... also, it CAN dump into a 2nd exhaust if you want.

2 get a tuned exhaust and keep out of the throttle in croweded areas, or when theres cops around.. thats what i do with my bike..... it has a nice blat at idle, its really mellow between 3-4k and then it gets really f'in loud when i open her up and it goes above about 4400.... but i can make it quieter by simply changing my driving style...

Its not stated why its illegal on the traffic offense code handbook, but loud exhausts were basicially deemed illegal becaus they can be considered a distraction and disturbance to other motorists. Dont blame the cops, blame your state law makers who you voted for.... :)
