Long story short. I got a speeding ticket in texas.

The long story is here, and is quite hilarious... :lmao:

Questions.

1. Texas is one of those states where if I don't pay this, I get my DL suspended, right?

2. Does texas have an online/phone ticket paying system? I think the cop said I needed to call that judge, But I don't know. It was kinda hard to understand him, and he wanted to get out of there more than anything else...

Unless you plan on visiting Texas within the next 7 years, I'd toss it. It only affects your driving record in your home state if it's a conviction. If it never goes before the judge, it never reaches a conviction.

Ok, TC, I have friends that have gotten their CO DL suspended because they did not take care of a ticket in another state. Now, it is my understanding that not all states are reporting unpaid tickets to other states, but I am not sure.

How sure are you that this will not affect me here? Understand that the only reason I am questioning your knowledge is that it is crucial that I get correct information.

Hmm, that would be something Colorado does then. Chances are that Colorado and Texas are in the Violator Compact together, but I have yet to see the state report unpaid traffic tickets to another state. You might want to call the Colorado licensing authority and ask if unpaid out of state tickets affect your license here. Oh, and just because it was a state trooper, it doesn't mean that the tickets get reported to some big state agency. Troopers file their tickets with justice of the peace courts in bum fucked Texas.

Ok, once more just to make sure, the cop handed me this sheet with a bunch of instructions and fines on it.

Under fine schedule, it says:

For violations other than the violations listed below, contact the Traffic Clerk in the judges office for the fine amount. Failure to contact the court by the appearance date shown on the citation will result in a warrant issued for the original charge and a failure to appear and suspension of your driving priveliges in your home state. Texas Drivers Licenses will not be renewed.

Whats your call?

Hmmm, unless the DPS has powers I don't know about, and they might, I'd say it's a bluff. We always send crap like that to people to try to get them to pay. Never works, though. :D

I thought the states that were all members of the violator compact sent info back & forth! I know I've gotten people with suspended Oklahoma licenses, where the computer shows them suspended for some type of "out of state notification".

I've also gotten people that didn't pay a ticket as far back as 8-10 years, & they were still suspended here even though they had gotten new licenses in another state.

Newsance, I would be reluctant to just forget about it unless I could be 100% sure that it would never come back to haunt me! Of course, the way my luck runs, I'd end up doing jail time too when I got caught!

Good Luck on whatever you decide!
