Last aug I got a speeding ticket for going 43 in a 25. i was only 16 and didnt want the points or any record of the ticket so i got a lawyer. cost me 75 bucks. he said that i didnt even have to go to court he would take care of all of it then i could just pay him back. so the first court date. he has it changed. then the second i didnt have school so i went. that was jan 4th. i go there and sit and wait.. then they ask me what im doing there.. so i said waiting for my laweyr.. they tell me that he has had it changed to another date... they didnt know the date. so i was waiting to hear from my lawyer... now its almost 9 monthes later and i still have not had to pay for this ticket. whats the deal. did he go and pay for it and forgot to contact me to reenburse him or do i have a warrent or something like that out for me??? what should i do?? if i call him he might be like "O hey i forgot about you... yeah you owe me 100 dollars and then court cost..."

It won't go to warrant until you're an adult. It'll stay a warrant for about 7 years, give or take a year.

I dont know what kind of mess your attorney has going on, but since the courts have no records of a second court date, mabey the ticket has been dropped?!?!? Call and ask your attorney, make sure there isnt anything you need to take care of incase a warrent for your arrest pops up..

he must be one heck of a nice lawyer to take care of it and not charge you. contact the court because they are the only ones who will know what the status of the ticket is. the lawyer can tell you anything he wants, he's not the one going to get locked up/car towed for not taking care of it. its YOUR responsibility to make sure it's taken care of.

I have had a lot of people tell that their lawyer was supposed to have taken care of it over the years, & some of them I really believe. The lawyer is not the one who gets arrested, or his license suspended etc etc.

Here in Oklahoma, if your license is valid & especially if you're under 18 yoa, they will send you a letter about not coming in, & if no response, they will send your info to the State for suspension! The state will send you notification of the suspension, but probably 75% of the people out there do not notify the Dept of Public Safety of their new address within 10 days like they're supposed to.

If you fail to show up for an actual trial, & don't show, for adults they're bond money they put up is forfeited & a bench warrant issued (I run into warrants as much as 10 years old). If under 18, I seen the judge have the parents brought in for a little "discussion", & on one occasion I saw him (the judge), send the mother of a child to jail who did not show for a curfew violation hearing.

In general, people talk about the cops having a lot of authority, I tell people & really mean it, that I never want to piss of a judge!

Call the court and tell them what you said here. You went to court with a lawyer and cant get in contact with him and dont know if the ticket is outstanding or not. By the way, its spelled WARRANT. :raz:
