IWhatsup, I've had this nagging question after watching a few most dangerous police chases , so i'd figure i'd ask here, i'm kinda under the impression that pursuits (high speed at least), would be very dangerous for the innocent bystander, just wanted to hear opinions on it from the people doin the actual chasing. Have you ever seen pursuits where other people get hurt (not the offenders)? Would it be better to just not chase after a certain percentage of people?

If there is a very high chance the chase might put any innocent bystanders at risk, they usually call the chase off. Which i have no problem doing becaus if i ever hurt or killed someone not involved in the chase, i could get a civil lawsuit against me as well as criminal in some cases. SInce thats the case id rather just call it on off..... Chances are the guy will get whats comming to him later on anyway..

police have very strict rules about chases for just that reason. just ask firecop, i know CT has VERY strict rules about it...

however, it appears that officers in South Carolina get less drivers training.. :squint:

Yup, BIG no-no in CT. Dont get me wrong, ive been in about 10 so far this year, and four were cut off. If there is a threat or danger that the people in teh car or others are at a risk of getting hurt, fuggedabout it. If its a robber or rapist, kidnapper, fleeing felon, yada yada, its ON baby, its ON. If its a stop sign violation, its getting cut off by the street sergeants. They usually get caught in traffic before that happens and usually bail out of the car and get caught anyhow. Gotta luv the city. :D
