What to do???

Hey guys, I had some fun last night. It was raining and I pulled into a small super market park lot. I went to the end and as I was going around the car spun on me. There was no one in sight so I figured i'd get out of there. I took the back way out and parked the car around the block, cause I just got totally freaked out. A black pick up comes flyin behind me and a guy jumps out, flashes his badge and starts yellin and cursin his head off at me. He took my info and then called a cop car in. They talked and then the on duty cop brought my stuff back. He said the other guy has 30 days to mail me as many tickets as he wants for that, if there are no bad reports on me then I may get off easy.

What can I do, the guy that pulled me over said he's gonna take my liscense for a year and i'm going to get 8 points.

Do nothing. Chanses are it wont get sent. If he actually swore at you and was unprofessional you could make a complaint against him.

heh, ive had real cops pull me over for doing that...... :thumbup:


still, i havent gotten a ticket for it...... probly because its on private property.... :shrug:

do you even have to give your info to an off duty cop? I dont think i would cause any idiot can come up with a badge and claim hes a cop or anything he wants to

In response to Kman, nobody has to show ANYTHING to any police officer. Off or on duty. Now anybody can find a badge so it's not really the badge that makes you the officer, it's the id that goes with it. So if you have a question, ask to see the id also.

No for showing anything or not, that's up to you. If you don't you have to pay the consequences. The least of which is a free all expense paid trip to the crowbar hotel.

I think if you were going to get written a ticket you would have gotten it on the spot. I think it happend like this, the cop(if he was a cop) that approached you in the truck wanted the on duty cop to write you up and he wouldnt do it. But instead put the scare into you
We dont do any of that mailing crap here, if we are going to write a ticket we do it on the spot..
Considering you covered your bases and got the cop (if he was a cop) in the black trucks name and what dept he was w/ you might be able to call in a complaint..
he sounds like a prick from what your saying. Im a cop 24/7 required to carry my service weapon everywhere i go like alot of depts, but i wouldnt still enforce traffic violations especially in my personal car. And im not sure about your states laws about getting tickets in parking lots that are usually private property, but you might want to look into it incase you really do get a ticket.

And after the event, you decided to park a block away? Not exactly smart eh?

Like the rest said, you won't get anything. The cop was just trying to scare you.

Is there anything wrong with running away from an off-duty cop, besides the fact that he will probably try to hunt you down eventually when he IS on douty? Like for example in a remote state or town where you will not be returning, would there be any issues? I'm pretty sure here in MA you're not required to do crap for an off-duty cop.

Polish, he was bluffing you to scare you. You were on private property. There isn't jack squat we can do to you on private property. At least in Texas, anyways, and most states traffic laws are very similar. All our statutes clearly state "on a public roadway".

In Texas if an off duty cop demands ID after an offense, you'd better cough it up unless you want a night in the pokey.
