i want go get subs in my car (like every teenager). My dad is always harpin to me about sound laws and i can get pulled over for it-ive never heard of anyone actually being pulled over before. If it is illegal tho, what kind of punishment do you get?would it just be a warning, like keep it down,or a ticket? Also,is it only illegal if it is above a certain level of volume?I live in arizona,in case that makes any difference in that kind of law. Thanks you in advance!
I can't speak for where you live. In Texas it's covered primarily by individual city ordinances.
An example of our ordinance is that it's only illegal if played loudly near a private residence. If you're caught doing that, you can pretty much bet it's going to be a ticket.

so (at least in texas) if you were blasting your system on the highway or down a regular road, you wouldnt have a problem?
Not unless you change the scenario a bit. If you're playing music with curse words, then you could be cited or arrested for disorderly conduct - language.

hahaha great ilisten to mostly black and death metal, theres curse words in it but i doubt anyone would be able to understand them in the first place!!!thanks a lot fot the replies TC!
I've only done it on rap songs where they get REALLY vulgar. Some people don't care if kids can hear it or not. That's a pet-peeve of mine.
And you're welcome. ;)

Here, we used to need a complaint from a citizen for loud music or loud noise etc for us to enforce the disturbing the peace ordinance.
Then all of these really loud & I mean loud stereos came along & the citizens kept calling their city councilmen wanting it fixed to where we could enforce the ordinance ourselves without them calling in.
Now there is a city ordinance that pertains directly to loud noises that are heard more than 50 feet (the definition includes stereos & some other things), or 30 feet in a residential area after 10:00 PM, then we can write $100.00 citations.
Kind of steep, I know, but it does get their attention!
Just for those that are interested, I don't write very many of those either (I tend to stick to moving violations that cause accidents/injury) & of course the usual insurance & tag violations.
Just use common sense and have respect for the people around you. I have my music jamming when I'm going down the highway because its hard to hear anything with the top down.
In the city, I don't really crank it. If I'm driving down a large private street, I may have it turned up. If I pull up to a light, I'll turn it down to respect the people around me.
Just use your common sense and you'll be ok.
