Got a speeding ticket for 40 in a 25 residential. I didnt pick up radar on my detector and when he showed me the gun it was blank. I told him that and he said it must have auto cleared.
My speedo doesnt work and i was keeping it around 3 grand in 2nd so as not to go too fast down that street. (no one was infront or behind me).

I doubt i was going exactly 40 and one mile under its a lesser fine.

What are my options?

thanks.

Radar guns do auto-clear and the officer does not have to show it to you. With no working speedometer in your vehcile I'd say you have no chance in fighting this ticket. What would be your defense?

1. I'm not required to lock in my speed. I rarely even do it, so if you look at my radar LED display, it'll be blank.
2. I'll bet you $10 I can clock your car with radar and your detector will never pick it up. Detectors have a lag time of a few seconds. I can release the hold button, have your speed and have the radar back on hold in just under a second........before your detector is finished determining whether or not it's radar it's sensing.

Yea, you can go to court and fight it. ;) You have my permission. :)

A few years back, our city attorney calls me about a speeding ticket I had written (54 in a 30), & says the ticket is marked "radar", but the driver has come in & claimed his detector never went off & he only saw me coming up on him from behind. I had gotten him coming toward me while I was parked off the side of the road writing a report & he never saw me.

I had to explain to the city attorney that I am not responsible for his radar detector not working properly, & that if he also failed to see a fully marked unit sitting less than 50' from him, then he was not paying attention either.

I don't know if my opinion counts here but i've had 6 tickets dropped for improper equipment. My uncle is a lawyer and he pleads that for me every time. I pay the fine And court cost but i don't get any points.

My only ticket was for going 83 in a 65. I would have had to pay $100 and received 2 points on my license. I went to court, which brings in about $50 in court costs to the fine, but ended up pleaing down to 69 in a 65 and having my fine lowered to $100 with the court costs added in. So I still have no points on my record.

It is generally stupid not to go in and at least plea to a lesser charge. Prosecuters and judges do not want to waste their time prosecuting speeders.

By the way, are you Se7en from Paintball City?

Apparently the cop that issued the ticket never ammends them. I already paid it and I'm gonna have to take the points right up my ass. :(

oh BTW

I noticed the cop spelled my last name wrong on the ticket and on the reciept the lady spelled both first and last names wrong.... I wonder....
