View Full Version : I got pulled over Saturday night...

It was Saturday night... around 10:00pm...

My friends wanted to hang out, so I walked out to the IROC and started to head over to their house... I got about a block away from my house, doing about 25mph, when I look in my rear view mirror and see two headlights rush up behind me... I make a right hand turn down a dark and quiet street and I watch the lights following me around the corner... I knew right away something was up...

As I coasted down the street, I kept eyeballing the rear view mirror trying to see if it was infact a police car (cuz I had a feeling it was), but it was so dark I couldn't make it out... then the flash of a street lamp illuminated the car for a split second, and I saw the light bar ontop... "Damn!" I thought to myself.. it was a cop car...

At this point, I became nervous because I have a very dark tinted rear hatch, tail light blackouts and red glow license plate lights... ALSO, my registration reads FEB 2002 due to a delay in registration renewal... so that makes me suspicious as hell at night, I know that...

Two seconds later, I see his police lights come on... I pull over, and he informs me that my blackouts are so dark, it's tough for him to see my lights and that the red glow license lights are illegal...

I awknowledged that I understood and that I could remove them, and also volunteered to him that my registration might come back as expired (it was actually renewed, but I had yet to receive my 2003 sticker). He asked me if I had ever been arrested before, and I told him "No, infact, this is the first time I've ever been pulled over". He took my license and registration and went back to his car to run em...

Came back a minute later, everything was clear and he just told me to fix the license plate lights and be aware that my tail light blackouts could cause an accident. No ticket, no harrasment... pretty nice guy.

What bothered me in a way (as I drove to my friend's house) was that here I see all these rice rockets driving around, with neon lights up the ass all over their cars... yet he decided to pull me over... I guess it's just cuz he happened to catch me, but damn.. I don't want to remove my red lights (I love the way they look), especially when I see ricers going around at night lit up like a lazer show...

Any comments from you officers?

Thanks for letting me off easy the first time

Well, personally i hate ricers, but i treat em like everyone else. I dont pull over cars for neons or little red lights. If they do something else wrong (in your case, the blackouts) then they are getting yanked and will be getting a ticket for those violations as well. See how it works? That officer probably did the same, but he gave you a break all around. Nice to get off with a warning, huh? BTW, your reg sticker is good until the end of March, you have a 30 day grace period. ;)

I have rear black outs myself, they are illegal becaus they obstruct the tail lights. I really dont know what comments your looking for. I respect and like imports, the only color lights i pull for are if someone has a blue colored light int here car. About anything you do to your car, i bet there is a statue that outlaws it. Its funny as hell listening to other officers who arent familiar with cars in general talk about and make fun of riced out cars after encountering them.

One officer came in with a confused look on his face telling everyone about this car he pulled over saying...
"i pulled over this car with this HUGE WING on the back, It had lights all over it, it looked like a moveing christmas tree with japanese letters all over it, i dont under stand why someone welds $6000 worth of ummmmm 'SHIT' to there $2000 car, and on top of that they spend $1500 on a giant WING and cant get there electric window fixed, they had to open the door!!".

it was funny the way he said it.... :D

if you acknowledge the fact the red lights are illegal then remove them. otherwise its an invitation to get pulled over again. and nothing gets me ticked then giving someone a warning and i see them again with the problem uncorrected........no warning next time. the blackouts? i tell people i stop that if they got rearended by someone what do you think the first words out of their mouth will be? "I could'nt see the brake lights". just my opinion.

Pretty much what I expected...

I guess the red glow lights gotta go huh.. for awhile anyway since I don't wanna piss off the same cop when he cut me some slack. I had NO idea those things were illegal... I was aware that blue and green were, but red?? You've gotta be kidding me...

Also, with regards to the blackouts. The officer commented that it was hard for him to see my tail lights while I was driving, but that when I applied brakes, he said he could see them fine. I don't believe he was implying they were illegal, but rather that if I was ever rear ended, it would almost certainly be my fault...

You've really got to be blind not to see me at night, since my car is white. If my car was dark blue or black, I could understand the potential risk of hitting me w/ the blackouts on some really dark street... but if you can't see a white car at night with running lights on... you shouldn't be on the road at all IMHO.

Thanks for the responses
