Say you were running radar on a highway (we'll say late at night, no/little traffic). Or maybe going the other way. If you clocked some schmoe doing 150 or more, would you even bother going after him? Would you radio ahead? Would you scratch your head and go back to your donuts?
Seriously. I just wonder. I'm no police officer so obviously my instincts aren't in the right place, but I know I'd do nothing. I know there's no way in hell my cruiser is gonna go that fast, nevermind actually catch up. About as far as I'd go would be to radio ahead to watch for someone flying along.
I also know, personally, that if I was travelling at 150mph and I saw a cop parked by the road I wouldn't even think about letting off the gas. Like I said, I know he'd never be able to catch up, and the most he'd probably do is call ahead, which is why I would get off the next exit or the 2nd exit or whatever was a wise decision, and then stick to the back roads. At 150mph at night I'm sure the officer would have a hard time even identifying the model of the car, unless they recognized the headlight pattern, because they would only really get a bit of a glance as I passed by, and then it would be taillights. In all honesty, it really wouldn't be a concious decision, I'd be too scared to do anything but get off the next exit and hope for the best. I'm not trying to be billy bad-ass here saying I'd willfully try to evade the police :)
On a side note, what if I changed the car to a motocycle? Would you even give a second glance? Considering a 150mph motorcycle on a deserted road is pretty much only gonna kill himself, do you really care?
I'm sure you had to have dealt with this situation at some point in your careers, and even if not, you have a pretty good idea of what you might do.
I'm just curious. I've done 150mph once in the year and a half I had my car. Passed no cops luckily.
