View Full Version : Exhaust Manifold Question.

Hey guys, quick exhaust quesiton:

Can an exhaust manifold from a 1987 V6 2.8L MPFI engine fit on a 1992 V6 3.1L MPFI engine?

I have a 1992 Firebird that needs new manifolds. I went to the local salvage yard and was able to get manifolds from a 2.8L. They look pretty similar to me, but I wanted to check with people who know these engines a lot better than I do.

Yeah I"m pretty sure they will. They're the same block. Unless they changed the bolt pattern it should work.

I've heard 3.4L headers will bolt up to our 3.1L blocks... But I don't know this as a fact.

2.8,3.1, and 3.4 all use the same block. As long as the bolt pattern is the same it will work. Go to the auto parts store and ask to see the exhaust gaskets and compare them.

Yes any manifold for a 2.8/3.1/3.4 is interchangeable. Now the Pacesetter headers for a 3.4 WILL BOLT to a 2.8/3.1 BUT THEY WILL NOT REPEAT WILL NOT CLEAR THE FRAME.

Ansd how hard is it to make headers? I've seen kits...

Actually the kits you have seen are for V8's. The cost to make a set... Well I will just say that I have about $1400 in equipment right now. And yes I have a El Cheapo bender too. Although it was STILL over $560 for the bender alone. Iafter i get a few of these sets sold I am looking at a $2K bender to make just about anything.

$150 Plus UPS S&H from zip 62999 Weight about 25-30 Lbs. I am shipping a set out tomarrow hopefully and the guy should get them early next week. I will wait for his feed back on them.
